Competitions

In 2009 I posted information about two photography competitions that I had come across and realized that many of you showed interest in them. By publishing some more I've often found myself in the dilemma as to whether to actually post a competition or not: photo usage rights are increasingly required to be passed to them for commercial reasons.

By receiving feedback from you about this topic, I have decided to try to make it easy to see the photo usage rights policy of individual competitions. For this, I've developed 'Photo Usage Rights Ratings' system:

Winning photo can be shown on the competition website as the winner of the competition.

Winning images are allowed to be used for competition promotion.

All entered images are allowed to be used for competition promotion.

Winning images can be used for promotional purpose of the organizers, and/or edited as desired, and/or used freely (including sold).

For more information about this refer to the full article about Photo Usage Rights and Photo Competitions! It is up to you to decide what star rating is acceptable to you!

I am sorry to inform you that due to time constraints I had to stop with the photography competitions updates. Instead, in the time found, I will try to finish some other articles about photography.

I hope that you have found the work published to date useful and that I have encouraged at least some of you to pay attention to the photo usage rights policy before entering a photography competition!

Before deciding to enter a particular competition, also make sure to read the article "What to pay attention when entering a photo competition?" which can help you improve your chances of being the competition winner.
