The competition is organized by Nikon and WWT (Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust).

ENTRY TYPE: mail: entries must be submitted both as a 7”x5” print and as a 7”x5” image on CD, or as close to these dimensions as possible. If you do not have a digital camera, images that are scanned onto CD are acceptable.
LIMITATIONS:
- Images must be taken over the last five years (no images taken before September 2004 are eligible).
- All photographs submitted to the competition must have been taken at a Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) centre.
- Individual photographs that have previously won competitions with a prize value exceeding £100, or have been published in a national publication, or sold to any party for reproduction, cannot be entered.
- It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the permission of the subject and do not infringe the copyright of any third party or any laws. If your photograph features any person or people, they should be aware that they are being photographed and permission should be obtained from all involved (or their parent’s/guardian’s permission if under 16) for their photograph to be submitted in the competition.
JUDGING:
Looking for variety, innovation and imagination as well as technical accomplishment. For example, your image might capture a special moment, depict specific behaviour or tell a story. It may feature a familiar iconic bird or insect, a frosty morning, or visitors enjoying a guided walk. Interested to know what WWT means to you so focus on capturing the essence of that special and unique world.
EDITING OF IMAGES:
- Allowed: cropping
- Not permitted: photo-shopped or digitally enhanced images; composite images.
YOUR RIGHTS AS A PHOTOGRAPHER:
- Copyright in all images submitted remains with the respective entrants. Where an image is used, the photographer will be credited.
- However, in consideration of their providing the Competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence to WWT to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, their websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this competition for a period of no more than five years.
CATEGORIES
Up to three entries can be submitted per photographer, per category. Each category entered should be accompanied by a fully completed entry form.
- WWT Nikon Photo of the Year (aged 17 and above)
- WWT Nikon Digiscoping Photo of the Year (aged 17 and above)
- WWT Nikon Junior Photo of the Year (aged 16 and below)
WINNING PHOTOGRAPHS
27 regional winners will receive a pair of Nikon 8 x 25 Travelite EX binoculars and will go forward as finalists to the National Competition and will be invited to attend an Awards Ceremony at WWT London Wetland Centre. They will be chosen as follows:
- WWT Nikon Photo of the Year and WWT Nikon Junior Photo of the Year: each of WWT’s nine centres will choose its own winner in these categories.
- WWT Digiscoping Photo of the Year: entries from all centres will be judged centrally and the nine best photos will be selected.
The national winner of the WWT Nikon Photo of the Year will receive a Nikon D90 Digital SLR and Lens.
The national winner of the WWT Nikon Junior Photo of the Year will receive a Nikon COOLPIX P6000.
The national winner of the WWT Nikon Digiscoping Photo of the Year will receive a Nikon Fieldscope 82mm with eyepiece.
