FEES: entry fee of $25 for the first image, each additional image (up to 5) is $10 (12pm Pacific Time)
JUDGING: Based on originality, artistic composition, photographic technique, and technical execution.
RESTRICTIONS:
- Participants must be of 18 years or older.
- Entries cannot include representations of any person unless he or she has executed a release acceptable to the Sponsors and made available upon request.
- Any Entry with names, logos or other indicia that may be owned or controlled by a third party is ineligible and must be removed prior to submission.
YOUR RIGHTS AS A PHOTOGRAPHER:
- If you are selected one of the winners, you will need to submit a signed affidavit of eligibility, release of liability and prize acceptance, and a release executed by each person who appears in the Entry (if any), or be disqualified.
- In the Affidavit and Release, each winner shall give the Sponsor’s permission, whether directly or indirectly through third-party licensees, to utilize the Entry and make derivative works of the Entry, including the right to reproduce the same, in connection with the reproduction, distribution, public display, publication, republication, and modification of the Entry, whether in whole or in part (including, without limitation, use in connection with any Sponsor promotional material, such as Sponsors’ web sites in a winners gallery and advertising in connection with future Competitions, including book publications), with or without the winner’s name, photo, likeness and biographical information, subject to applicable law, and without the further consent of, or compensation to, the winner and/or any person who appears in the Entry. The Affidavit and Release shall also certify the winner’s eligibility and the Entry’s ownership, originality and non-infringement.
- Subject to the rights granted to Sponsors, each winner retains all copyrights in the Entry.
CATEGORIES
There are only two categories:
- Straight Photography/Lightly Manipulated. Defined as generally straight-forward photography with minimal or no graphics software enhancement.
- Photo Illustration. Applies to images that have undergone significant graphics software manipulation (special effects, composites, etc.).
The subject matter is open.
WINNING PHOTOGRAPHS
First Place in Straight Photography category:
- Adobe Photoshop CS4
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2
- $500 gift certificate from camera and electronics retailer Samy’s Camera
- $500 gift certificate from Software Cinema for Adobe training videos
- Photography Reality Training Workshop, led by veteran fashion photographer Claudio Basso in New York City. A choice of Fashion Photography, The Power of Light, or Editorial Workshop, valued up to $1,599. Selection of dates available (airfare not included).
- Your choice of a signed print up to 30″x40″ from fine-art photographer and founder of PHOTOWORKSHOP.COM, Robert Farber. A $4,700 value.
- Lowepro Orion Trekker II camera backpack. Valued at $65. Capacity: One digital or 35mm SLR with zoom lens attached, two to three additional lenses, flash or compact binoculars and other accessories.
- The complete Photo Workshop book series. A $250 value.
- Blow Up 2 from Alien Skin. This Photoshop plug-in produces image enlargements that are dramatically sharp. A $249 value.
First Place in Photo Illustration category:

- Take the workshop of your choice at the Maine Media Workshops. A $2000 value, which includes room and board (airfare not included).

- Blow-Up 2 from Alien Skin. This Photoshop plug-in produces image enlargements that are dramatically sharp. A $249 value.
- Sharpener Pro 3 from Nik Software. A $200 value.
- AKVIS Sketch 8.5 Software. Converts your photographs to pencil sketches. A $72 value.
Selected images will be featured on the George Eastman House web site.
Additionally, Rangefinder and AfterCapture will choose from among the winning images to appear on the covers and inside pages of these popular photography magazines.
Nine runners-up in each category will be awarded one-year PHOTOWORKSHOP.COM Showcase level memberships (or membership extensions to those who are already members)
There are also 38 honourable mentions from each category totalling 100 winners and honourable mentions.
