RESTRICTIONS and REQUIREMENTS
- Your Age: You must be over 18 years old.
- Photo editing: There is no information about any restrictions.
- Entry images must be submitted at, or be available at, sufficiently high resolution so that they can be printed at a standard acceptable for display in printed media.
- Category winners and the overall winner may be required to provide Professional Photographer with a high res version of the submitted image.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- You have taken the photograph(s) you have sent to us or you have permission from or are authorized by the owner of the photograph(s) to send it (them) to Professional Photographer.
- All necessary model and property releases must have been obtained from any clearly identifiable person appearing in any image, together with any other relevant consents required, and that the use of any Submitted Materials in this competition or pursuant to the licenses granted herein does not breach any copyright, moral right, or other right of any other person or entity.
- The Submitted Materials are not obscene, do not reveal any proprietary or trade secrets, and do not defame or libel any person.
- You, or the person from whom you have permission to submit the Submitted Materials, own(s) the copyright and other relevant rights to the Submitted Materials, that you will not license or assign such copyright during the course of the competition, that you have full power and authority to grant the licenses and authorizations granted herein, and that submission of the Submitted Materials and use and display of same will not be contrary to any law or any contract or agreement with any third-party.
YOUR RIGHTS AS A PHOTOGRAPHER
- By entering the competition, Participants grant Professional Photographer and its Competition Partners an irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide royalty-free license to reproduce, publicly display, distribute, publicly perform and create derivative works from their Submitted Materials, in all media, solely in connection with the administration, judging and promotion of the Professional Photographer of the Year Awards 2009,.
- Submitted Materials will NOT be used for commercial advertising purposes and will NOT be altered without the prior consent of the author, except as necessary to display or distribute them in a particular medium or format. Permissible uses of Submitted Materials shall include their reproduction, distribution and display in exhibitions, multimedia presentations, and printed materials related to or promoting the Professional Photographer of the Year Awards 2009 and/or its sponsorship by Professional Photographer and their Competition Partners.
- Professional Photographer and its Competition Partners shall have the right to grant sublicenses to the press and publicity agents in connection with the promotion of the Award or the competition.
- Professional Photographer and its Competition Partners also shall have the right to make the Submitted Materials available to third-parties for viewing on computer screens and other media devices, and for storage in electronic format, for personal, non-commercial uses only.
- Professional Photographer and its Competition Partners shall have the right to use and publish all winners’ and finalists names and approved likenesses for publicity purposes.
CATEGORIES
There are 10 categories available:
- Advertising – Regardless of subject matter, as long as your image was commissioned to fulfil a commercial advertising brief, it can be entered into this category. When entering you should include the name of the client.
- Contemporary Art – Open to all subject matter and all photographic approaches, this is a completely open category where you can enter images that you feel best fulfil the category title. These could be fine-art images, nudes, single images from photographic projects or images from nature – as long as the approach is contemporary.
- Editorial – Whatever the subject matter as long as your image was commissioned by an editorial publication, book or magazine, then it can be entered into this category. When entering you should include the name of the publication.
- Fashion – This category is open to both personal and commissioned work as well as all forms of fashion photography.
- Interiors/Architecture – This category is open to both commissioned and personal work and all forms of interiors and architectural photography.
- Portraiture – This category is open to both commissioned and personal work and all forms of portrait photography.
- Social Reportage/Weddings – This category is open to both commissioned and personal work and all forms of social reportage, event and wedding photography.
- Still Life/Food – This category is open to both commissioned and personal work and all forms of still-life and food photography.
- Student of The Year – f you are in full or part-time education, or attending a photographic course, then you can enter this category with an image of any subject matter you wish.
- Travel – Whatever the subject matter as long as your image was taken on your travels, you can enter this category. This includes landscape, UK and International travel images.
You can enter as many categories as you wish, but only 1 image per category.
JUDGES
- Geoff Waring, creative director
One-time art director of both UK and Australian Vogue and now consultant creative director at Publicis Blueprint and Cath Kidston, Geoff’s love of photography, considered opinions and wealth of experience will ensure that every image is given full consideration.
- Sue Steward, writer & journalist
A recent judge of the Sony World Photo awards and past judge of the Schweppes Portrait awards, Sue’s awareness of the constantly changing world of international contemporary photography will be at its sharpest when judging our 2009 awards.
- Ed Webster, photographic director
As photographic director at 4 Creative, advertising arm of Channel 4, Ed commissions all photography for print related material. With his hand firmly on the pulse of the photographic industry he’s the man others turn to for advice, tips and photographers.
- Caroline Metcalfe, photographic director
Having worked as a photo editor at the FT and now as photographic director at Condé Nast Traveller, Caroline is no stranger to both seeing and commissioning some of the world’s greatest photographers and editing their images. Two talents which she will bring to our judging.
- Peter Rear, CEO
Peter set up his first company at the age of 22, which became one of the busiest wedding & event photography studios in London. Two years ago he set up PR Imaging International, which has grown to be one of the major players in the industry. He may be the youngest but he knows his stuff.
JUDGING CRITERIA
There is no information how the photographs will be judged.
WINNING PHOTOGRAPHS
Overall winner: flights/travel for two persons to New York City with accommodation for 2 nights
This is only valid from 2nd January 2010 – 31st October 2010 and is dependent on availability as dictated by Professional Photographer. Accomodation will be arranged as specified by Professional Photographer for two people only for a maximum of two nights. All other travel arrangements and costs will be arranged by the competition winner.
