COMPLETE NAME: Humanizing Development Global Photography Campaign
ORGANIZED BY: This competition is organized by the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme.
How do you see development? How can you portrait the human face of the development processes? How do you show that development initiatives and programmes improve the lives of people?
This Global Photography Campaign aims to show examples of people winning the battle against poverty, social exclusion and marginalization. It is intended to raise awareness of the successes in the development process. The campaign is intended to counterbalance the frequently shown images of desolation and despair. A photo gallery will to be permanently located at IPC-IG office and open for public visitation. A series of photo exhibitions will also be organized in several cities around the world. Everyone can and is strongly encouraged to participate in this global effort and contribute with a photograph. Join us now in showing development through a different lens! YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- When entering their work into the Campaign, each participant assumes, privately, personally and exclusively, all civil and/or criminal liability related to people, animals and/or objects depicted in their work, resulting from the concept, creation and marketing of the registered image, and releases from any such liabilities the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme, its directors, represented countries, institutional partners and any other publishing or marketing body related to the promotion of the Campaign.
YOUR RIGHTS AS A PHOTOGRAPHER
- Participants within the Humanizing Development Global Photography Campaign must agree to transfer, irreversibly and irrevocably, all intellectual property rights pertaining to their submitted photographs to the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme, for use in accordance with these regulations, with the result that the organizing body and its partners shall utilize and reproduce them at any such time and for any such means as it desires, without any limitation on space, timeframe, language, quantity of copies and quantity of usage, by way of those media, formats and channels which it has approved including but not limited to: magazines, newspapers, public and cable television, internet, telephone, cinema, media in general (conventional or electronic), catalogues, leaflets, reports, postcards, books, posters, bill-boards, back-lights, front-lights, paintings, banners, bills, invitations, direct mailings, labels, logomarks, logotypes, in whichever venue, conference, seminar, national or international display, or by other materials or media of any nature, provided that the photographs are correctly credited to the photographer/Campaign participant.
- The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme is expressly authorized to freely undertake editing of the photographs, and may make any cuts, editing and reproductions necessary, including the separate use and reproduction of any individual element included in the photographs, arranging these elements in any form which it has approved, including in conjunction or in composition with photographs/illustrations by third parties.
- The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme agrees to fully credit all photographs submitted to the Global Campaign, by reference to the name of the participant following the standard format “IPC PHOTO / PARTICIPANT NAME”.
- All participants in the Campaign automatically authorize the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme to use their image, name, voice and personal details in: photos, posters, films and/or advertising spots and by whichever type of media and promotional material, for the sole purpose of publicizing the results of the Campaign.
- The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme may transfer intellectual property rights of the winning photographs to whichever partner or to whichever non-profit body that it so desires, without obligation to make any payment to participants in the Campaign whatsoever.
THEME
Theme is "Humanizing Development".
This campaign will enable people to contribute photographs related to a wide array of development situations, such as:
- Overcoming poverty, social exclusion and marginalisation.
- Enlarging people’s choices and supporting local development initiatives.
- Promoting self-esteem, confidence and hope.
- Building a brighter future and advancing human capacities.
- Fighting deprivation and expanding access to food, water, sanitation, education and health services for the poor.
- Eliminating gender inequalities in the labour market.
- Empowering women.
- Fighting discrimination, domestic violence, abuse and exploitation.
- Eliminating child labour and promoting decent work opportunities.
- Expanding access to education and improving its quality and social inclusiveness through innovative approaches.
- Innovative initiatives on local development, enhancing the participation of communities in decision processes.
- Enhancing women’s potential and participation in development processes.
- Promoting women’s leadership and equal opportunity to develop talents.
- Building democratic governance and developing institutions and processes that are more responsive to the needs of ordinary citizens, including the poor. Alleviating exclusion, suffering, injustice and waste caused by corruption.
- Empowering citizens to combat the destructive influence of corruption, entrenched networks and abuse of power.
Each participant may send up to 5 photographs.
JUDGES
The Committee will be composed of:
- one representative from IPC-IG;
- one UNV representative from headquarters in Bonn;
- a professional photographer with international reputation;
- a representative from a partner institution based in Africa, one in Asia and the Pacific, one in the Arab States and another in Europe and the CIS.
There is no information who the judges are.
JUDGING
There is no information how the photographs will be judged.
CHOSEN PHOTOGRAPHS
The Selection Committee will choose the 50 favourite photographs that best depict the campaign themes to compose their photo gallery.
As a reward, your contribution to this campaign and your effort in supporting its goals will be acknowledged by a wide dissemination of your work through a range of UN communications tools:
- The selected photographs and the respective contributors’ names will be highlighted in various UN communications channels, such as IPC-IG and UN media campaigns, releases, websites and so forth.
- The selected photograph will be part of UNDP and IPC-IG photo databases and will be shared with the United Nations Department of Public Information in New York, promoting global visibility to contributors, their work and participation in the global campaign.
- Contributors will receive a certificate of participation jointly issued by the UNDP International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth and the campaign partners.
- Contributors will have their names displayed at the IPC-IG photo gallery on "Humanizing Development", will be located at the headquarters of the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth of the United Nations Development Programme in Brasilia – DF, Brazil and will be launched at a public event on November 2009.
- Photo exhibitions are to be organised in order to highlight the photographs and the contributors and to promote the campaign goals. Exhibitions are planned to be held in New York, Brasilia, São Paulo, and other cities in the South.
